About me
My name is Paula Madeira and I’m a qualified Doctor in Traditional Chinese Medicine
After finishing my degree in Plant Science (Nottingham University), I returned to Portugal and decided to go on a different path. For a while, I owned a fashion jewellery shop, where I learned a lot about human behaviour, but something was missing. So in 1995, I decided to go back to school and I started studying Shiatsu at IMP ( Portuguese Macrobiotic Institute ), while managing, in parallel, a bar business. A year later, I started my studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine at ESMTC (School of Traditional Chinese Medicine). I finished both courses in 2001. The years that followed were dedicated to perfecting not only Chinese medicine but also Shiatsu and other types of massage that I have learned over the years.

ESMTC - Qigong
While studying TCM, I developed a passion for QiGong. I trained intensely the first few years, with Prof Deolinda Fernandes and Prof José Faro, Wang Kew Kit and Joaquim Pedreros, then I start teaching Qigong classes at the School of Chinese Medicine, ESMTC ( Lisbon).
From there, I delved into the different areas to which I was connected; Massage, TCM and Qigong.
I also started my spiritual search at that time. I went through several institutions until I found the Self Realization Fellowship (SRF) where I stayed from 1999 to 2004. The Fiat Lux Fraternity followed, where I worked as a medium from 2004 to 2010.
In 2004, I co-founded the QiGong Instructors Course, in 2017 the QiGongFacilitator Course in Mozambique, and in 2018 in the United Kingdom.
Gynecology in TCM
In 2006, I felt love with Gynecology and later Andrology within Chinese medicine, this passion was somewhat driven by the training I was doing at the time in Thailand with Mestre Mantak Chia. I started teaching Ginacology in 2007 and immediately realized that Master Mantak Chia’s teachings would be an asset, not only for the Gynecology / Andrology subject but also for the treatment of patients. Then I started to integrate this system in my classes and clinic. After 8 years of teaching Gynecology and Andrology in Chinese Medicine, I started the course of Gynecology in TCM for Chinese Medical professionals (see Gynecology and Andrology blog).
Currently, I’m head of the ESMTC Gynecology and Andrology team and continue my studies in these and other related areas.
Universal Healing Tao- Mestre Mantak Chia
This QiGong system was created by the Master Mantak Chia. It is a complete system as it works the physical, mental and emotional body. The system itself results from the fusion of various ancient Chinese meditative methods and internal energy practices taught by different Asian masters, who pass their knowledge on to Master Mantak Chia. My journey in this system starts in 2007 when I had the opportunity to go to Thailand to deepen the knowledge of QiGong. For 3 consecutive summers, I was at Tao Garden in Chiang Mai- Thailand where I learned directly from Master Mantak Chia this system, along with other healing techniques. In 2009 I became an Instructor of the Universal Healing Tao System.
Master Mantak Chia’s teachings were a real revelation on many levels. I was able to perceive the relationship between body and mind in an integrative and complementary way, something that the other QiGong systems had not achieved. Back in Portugal, I worked with a senior system instructor (Dirk Al) for 5 years and with him, I deepened my knowledge. In 2010 I became Coordinator for Portugal of the Universal Healing Tao System, a position that I have held to date.
In 2012 I took this system to Mozambique and founded Universal Healing Tao Mozambique. I continue to teach this system and train students in Portugal and Mozambique.
